20th Annual Long Island Police Appreciation Run
Thursday, June 9th, 2011 7:00 PMCongratulations to NYPD Running Club Member Will Hansler who ran away from the pack at the 20th Annual Long Island Appreciation Run, winning in a time of 16:53, almost one minute over any other runner.
The running club had a great turn out and we all survived the major rain and wind storm that came through just as the starting gun went off.
Congratulations also goes out to NYPD Lieutenant Caroline Roe who was the first female law enforcement officer, retired NYPD Police Officer James Schramm who was the first male master law enforcement officer, and NYPD Captain Susan Maier-Smith who was the third female master law enforcement officer and line-of-duty injury disability NYPD Police Officer Keith Winchell who was the first Wheelchair finisher.
Thanks to the Nassau Police Running Club for hosting us once again with some great after race food and beverages.
Each year the NYPD Running Club joins with our fellow Law Enforcement officers from Nassau and Suffolk counties to enjoy a great run around Eisenhower Park, with food and beverages to follow.
This run is a 5K Race in the heart of Nassau County. For those of you considering running it and live in New York City, Eisenhower Park is only about 20 minutes from the Nassau/Queens boarder.
In addition to the normal age group awards, this race also has Law Enforcement awards. Come out and support this run where the entire net proceeds go to POLICE CRISIS FUND to aid law enforcement officers and families in time of personal emergencies.
If you intend to come to this event please send an email to NYPDRC@Verizon.net so we can have a head count and arrange for the proper amount of food and beverages.
